A Cultural History of Popular Music in Britain
This book aims to improve English skills and cross-cultural awareness by describing the socio-cultural history of the United Kingdom over time, and by showing how this complex, evolving story is clearly articulated and reflected in British rock music. Passages give factual information, identifying and examining prominent styles of music that define different historical periods, and explaining how each successive style or ‘movement’ directly connects to co-existing social conditions. Lyrics are explored to stimulate critical thinking skills, express opinion and encourage debate.
